Day 2 - what fun!

May 8th, 2005 at 07:07 pm

Hi everyone

First I must say thank you to those of you who gave me the stars - how do they appear from no-where after just one day - well it is encouraging.

Happy Mother's Day - I had a great surprise today - my Dad and girlfriend (my Mom died last year May - so this is a huge adjustment for me - they were married for 49 years) arrived here this morning to take myself and my 5 year old daughter, Emma out for Brunch for Mother's Day. This is the first time I have had such a nice treat. Emma had also made a candle for me at school which she gave to me this morning before my eyes were even open properly. Needless to say, I was all teary - let me tell you the story about Emma.

Emma was abandoned when she was born - very very premie - only 30 weeks gestation versus 39 - 40 weeks, and so she spent her first 2.5 months in prem unit and then I found her in a childrens home. In South Africa we have a huge problem with abandoned children and babies due to the unemployment and proverty. In 1994 with change in our government (the end of Apartheid) the new constitution made is possible for single people to adopt children. Emma came home with me when she was 4 months old and has been the joy of my life since - I am a proud mommie just like every other mom (it amazes me that we all think our kids are brilliant - but what fun).

Thought more about my finances after I logged out last night, and decided EVERY day I have do something to reduce the debt, save money and "sell more". If we do something daily then the successful days will add up to successful weeks, to successful months etc.

Today, I had to go and get Emma's Asthma medicine (she has Asthma as a result of being so prem) and that cost $89 - it was budgeted so I guess I can't be too tough on myself. Other than that I didn't spend any money today - which is amazing.

Cooked again today, chickens to make chicken pies, chicken ala king and Macaroni and Cheese - so that takes care of another 10 meals and reduces the electricity bill because I won't have to cook from scratch every night.

I am really looking forward to work tomorrow - feeling very motivated and can't wait to earn extra money to pay off some debt at the end of May.

You know what is so amazing - I don't feel as bad as I did about all my debt and I am sure that it is because of this journal and being able to read everyone elses and how you are making progress.

Oh, yes, Mom from Missouri - I also wash baggies - see I told you we are all in the same situation

Have a good day tomorrow - see ya

Bronwyn

Thank you for sharing your story about Emma, you both sound very lucky! You are right about little sucesses creating bigger sucesses. We have to take each day at a time and do the best we can, being thankful for what we do have. Just the fact that we are here looking for support in getting control of our finances is a step higher than most people are willing to take.
